We will be using The Book of
Shiatsu by Paul Lundberg. Please bring a copy, or a copy may be
purchased from the instructor for $15.
An
Oriental healing therapy based upon restoring “ki”, the vital life
energy that flows through the body’s “meridians”, Zen Shiatsu treats
the entire body and mind, not merely its parts.
Consisting primarily of deep compression, acupressure, stretching
and range of motion, Zen Shiatsu provides a very relaxing and energizing massage.
It is performed on a floor
mat with both giver and receiver dressed in loose, comfortable clothing.
In this class you will learn and practice a 50-minute Zen Shiatsu routine
with the receiver lying in the prone and supine positions.
Zen Shiatsu 1 or its equivalent
is a prerequisite for taking Zen Shiatsu
2. (Note: If you have had Shiatsu instruction from Ric Good
at one of the area massage schools, you may have already meet this
prerequisite. Contact Ric Good to discuss this.)
Zen Shiatsu 1 is strongly
recommended as an introduction to Asian
bodywork for anyone wishing to take Thai Massage 1. It will greatly
simplify your learning curve for Thai Massage.
Since we will be working on the floor, kindly bring a
couple of heavy blankets to class for your comfort and to protect your knees.
Class will be held at Open Heart, Quiet Mind. If
you have questions or wish to register for this workshop, please contact
the instructor, Ric Good, at 317-840-8393. Massage Therapists may
earn 16 CE hours applicable to the continuing education requirements of
AMTA, ABMP, and NCBTMB.
